Pain in the joint after corona may be avascular necrosis, requiring joint replacement; Three new patients were found in Mumbai

While the second wave of coronavirus has hit India, on the other hand, the difficulties following covid recovery are increasing. Concerns in the country have been exacerbated by the presence of mucomycosis i.e. problems related to black fungus, diabetes, blood clots, heart, lung and pulmonary as well as prolonged symptoms of covid. Doctors are now facing a new problem called 'avascular necrosis' related to covid recovery.

Orthopedic Dr. Rajiv Hingora says about this disease, Avescular means no blood and necrosis means dead. That is, a piece of bone where the blood supply is reduced, its cells become dead. He is also known as Bone Death.

Avascular necrosis is caused by the blood not reaching the cells

Simply put, the disease causes the bones to melt. This is because of the obstruction in the blood flow, which does not allow enough blood to reach the cells. In such a condition the nutrients are depleted and the bone cells start to die.

Suspicion of increasing cases of vascular necrosis

According to reports, three cases of avascular necrosis (AVN) have been found in Mumbai hospitals, all under the age of 40. All of these have recovered from the corona. According to doctors, cases of vascular necrosis may increase in the near future.

More risk to people taking steroids

According to Dr. Rajiv, the problem of vascular necrosis occurs most in the bones of the hips, which causes the round part of the thigh, which is connected to the hips, to melt. It usually affects people in their 30s and 60s. But patients with corona who have been given steroids during treatment are at higher risk.

How is 'Bone Death' treated?

According to Dr. Rajina, do not ignore joint pain. Consult an orthopedic doctor if you have pain for several days in a row, with no other symptoms. The doctor will keep you under observation for a few days and will recommend an MRI if the pain does not go away. As can be detected by MRI a month later. X-rays can also be detected after three months. It can be treated early in the day but joint replacement is the only way if it is delayed.
