If you are bothered by unwanted calls and SMS, you should get relief from it soon. The telecom department has prepared a roadmap for it. Under it, telecom companies cannot make more phone calls and SMS to users than the limit set to increase subscribers. If that happens, companies will now have to pay a legal penalty.

Making more than 50 unwanted calls and SMS will result in a fine of Rs 10,000, Telecom Department is preparing a roadmap

According to sources, the user will be fined Rs 10,000 for more than 50 phone calls and SMS. There is a readiness to tighten the rules by increasing the penalty slab. Under the new proposal, a penalty of Rs 1,000 for zero to 10 unwanted sales calls, Rs 5,000 per violation for 11 to 50 calls and Rs 10,000 per violation for more than 50 violations is proposed.

How to check incoming call and SMS?

Telecom DIU (Digital Intelligence Unit) will investigate phone calls and SMS violations. Penalty slabs under the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation 2018 were kept from zero to 100, 100 to 1000 and 10,000 call violations. The system will send a message to suspicious phone numbers for DIU verification.

How the rule will be strictly enforced

In case of verification all the numbers will be disconnected and the IMEI number attached to it will be added to the suspicious list. No calls, SMS or data will be allowed for IMEI in this list for 30 days. Also, calls, SMS or data from phones with IMEI numbers included in the suspect list will be kept in the gray list.

If the caller device that annoys the user changes even after these processes, the IMEI number of the new device will also be kept in the suspicious list.

If the harassing caller's number becomes active after re-verification, the use of the new connection will be limited to 20 calls and 20 SMS per day for 6 months.

According to sources, even if the caller continues to violate, the ID and address proof used to purchase the telecom connection will be banned for 2 years.
