IRCTC will resume packaged food service in trains after 15 months, know full details

IRCTC is planning to run Tejas Express on both Delhi-Lucknow and Ahmedabad-Mumbai routes from next month.

IRCTC is currently providing readymade food in about 1000 trains

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is going to start re-packaged food in trains. The facility will be launched in trains for the first time in about 15 months during the Corona. Packed food will be provided in Tejas Express. It may be mentioned that IRCTC is preparing to run Tejas Express on both Delhi-Lucknow and Ahmedabad-Mumbai routes from next month.

The IRCTC had closed the packed food facility in trains starting in Corona in March last year. The IRCTC took this decision to prevent the transmission of corona. Train service was later completely shut down after the country imposed a lockdown. Trains resumed operations in May 2020. IRCTC then started providing readymade food in trains for the convenience of passengers, which come packaged from factories.

Provides readymade food

IRCTC is currently providing readymade food in about 1000 trains. However this number was around 2500 in pre-covid time. Gradually this number is increasing. IRCTC is going to launch Tejas Express on both the routes from next month. These trains are ready to make packed food available. Food will be made available in both trains as before, keeping in view the Corona protocol. According to IRCTC, bookings for the Tejas will also start soon. However both the trains are private and are being operated by IRCTC so the delivery of packed food is being started from these trains. After seeing the trend of passengers on packed food in these trains, it may be introduced in other trains as well.
