Differences in BP in both hands can be dangerous, leading to premature death; Learn the proper way to check blood pressure

People get information about their health by taking one hand reading at the time of blood pressure check, but is this the right way to check blood pressure? Research on blood pressure has shown that if there is a big difference in blood pressure in both hands, it can lead to premature death.

Researchers in Britain, after conducting research on 230 people, have claimed that those who have high blood pressure and have high blood pressure in both hands can die prematurely due to heart disease, stroke or other causes.

A slight difference in blood pressure is normal

Dr. Clark, a researcher at the University of Exeter's Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, is the lead researcher on the research and says that a small gap in blood pressure between the two hands is normal.

More than 10 differences between systolic and diastolic are dangerous

According to Maureen Tablot, a senior heart disease nurse at the British Heart Foundation, the research confirms that blood pressure in both hands should be checked at the time of blood pressure check. A distance of 10 millimeters (mm Hg) between systolic and diastolic is normal, but a distance of more than 10 millimeters can be a sign of a heart problem.

According to Dr. Clark, the lead researcher on the research, "whenever a doctor checks a patient's blood pressure, they do both."

Blood pressure of 3400 patients was checked

To understand the difference in blood pressure between the two arms, 3400 patients over the age of 40 were examined at a Massachusetts hospital in the United States. These were patients who already had no symptoms of heart disease. The investigation found a difference of 5 in systolic blood pressure in one arm and in the other arm, but in 10 per cent of them the gap was more than 10. These people were monitored for 13 years.

Symptoms of heart attack, stroke, and coronary heart disease were seen in 38% of people over 10 distances. Patients with hypertension are at risk of heart attack if the blood pressure gap between the two arms is 10 or more.

Indication of blockage in Bavda's artery

If the blood pressure difference between the two arms is greater when measuring blood pressure, it indicates a blockage in the arteries of the arm. Problems with the peripheral arteries increase the risk of blockage in the heart and brain. It also increases the risk of heart attack or stroke.

A gap in blood pressure can cause death

A study published in the science magazine The Lancet also found that if the blood pressure in both hands was too high, it could lead to vascular disease. It increases the risk of death.

Consider a doctor's advice when checking blood pressure at home

Dr. Clark advises that patients with high blood pressure who have their blood pressure checked at home should follow their doctor's advice.
