By the year 2022, the number of smartphones that will be sold will be those with OLED displays. This claim has been made in the report of Trend Force. Accordingly, smartphones with OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays have become popular. According to the report, OLED display feature panels have sold 39.8% by 2021. It is projected to sell up to 45% by 2020.




Demand for OLED displays in Apple and Samsung companies

"Smartphone makers such as Apple and Samsung are using AMOLED and OLED display technology on a large scale," said the research analyst. This is the reason why its market share is increasing. Demand for display driver IC for OLED panels has increased. It is becoming difficult to supply as per the demand.


OLED chips are larger

According to reports, OLED's chipset is larger than others. It is therefore available in limited quantities. Most display drivers take up 40 to 28 nanometers of space for IC. Currently only TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited), Samsung Electronics, UMC and Global Foundries make IC display drivers for OLED panels.
